PMPO 2020 Plan : May 3 Community Meeting at Palomar Lodge

Draft notes taken by Tom Burton:

We had a great Community turn out at our meeting that went for about 2 1/2 hours Saturday morning at the Lodge. Without counting, I think there were 30-40 people there--ACTIVELY participating.

We went through the background of what a General Plan is, and the history that got us to where we are now--something like the ABC's view you distributed for the PMPO's GP2020 Committee a few weeks ago (I can resend THAT if anyone needs it).

The two DPLU representatives were very open and helpful to our understanding of not only the process, but many specifics. At the end of the meeting they had a draft they distributed that actually largely anticipated our general consensus.

We took several 'straw votes' to get a 'feeling' of how folks would like to see our Mountain in the future.

The challenge of the PMPO's GP2020 Committee now is to fashion from all Saturday's discussion some alternatives that can appropriately summarize options discussed for a vote at this year's Annual Meeting. The DPLU folks will take that vote as the VOICE OF THE MOUNTAIN for their planning purposes.

In very non-specific terms there will be options that look something like this for that vote [PICK ONLY ONE OF THE FIRST THREE, THE OTHERS ARE YES or NO's]:

  1. Would you like to see NO CHANGE?
  2. Are you willing to see some small and reasonable expansion of Commercial use all right around the summit?
  3. Would you like to see a larger area, still reasonable and prohibiting big box retailers, drive thru's etc?
  • Are you willing to see special ZONING provisions to allow the existing uses for the LODGE at Crestline; The Bailey RESORT; and the Museum and gift store uses at the OBSERVATORY, even tho outside the Rural Commercial area (Village Core) around the Summit?
  • Would you like to see the pre-FCI density returned (Ag-1 dwelling unit for 8 Acres--depending on slope, etc)?

Anyone at the meeting knows there are many complex possibilities buried in each, seemingly simple, option. Anyone who has any questions, please contact me or any of the other PMPO members who were present: Jim Hamerly; Bonnie Phelps; Susan Humason; Libby Getzoff; John Tainer; Michael Pique; Robert Carlyle; Bruce Graves; Earl Walls; Donna Dose.
