KPBS Closing Day
Article & Video June 2008

It was bitter-sweet at the last promotion for the Palomar Mountain School June 2008.  We were all proud of the graduates, but sad to have the school close.
Jessie Thompson, Ashleigh Easton and Joseph Duncan were the last three eighth graders to graduate from Palomar Mountain School.

Be sure to read 'Final Bell Rings', and the KPBS Closing Day Article & Video and stay tuned for more history of the school and lots more photos.

In the mid 1940's the Jameson family petitioned San Diego County to open a school.  Their daughter, Maureen Robison (above) was the first graduate in 1948.  Click to read her Keynote speech. as part of the closing chapter for Palomar Mountain School.

In June of 2007, my 9 year old son Brenden & I spent the day at Palomar's school to see the advantages of a small school versus his school of 600 students in San Diego. The staff and students were extraordinary! It was a valuable experience we both treasure, and regret this resource is no longer available to residents on the mountain, or other children that would benefit from a pastoral educational setting.

A Sock Hop was the last Fund Raiser for the School in March 2008.
Lots of fun and a great success!

Palomar Mountain School was the pride of the community for over 100 years! A "one-room school" of grades K through 8th.

You are invited to browse through the community site for just a hint of the history of the Palomar Mountain School! Because of declining enrollment and budget cuts, the school will closed in 2008.
