"The open slopes were covered with fern and dotted with wildflowers, the evergreen forest swept down and away and farther on we could see the vivid blue of the Pacific. Catalina and the Coronado Islands stood out sharply. We were almost delirious with delight."

Elsie, telling of her first wagon trip to the Mountain. 1904

Snow on State Park Road
7:30 am February 7th, 2009

The 'Biggest moon of 2009' has been responsible for very bright nights lately.  The two photos below were taken seconds apart up on Fern Meadow Road.  Moon is coming up in the east (so windy and freezing cold--sorry it's fuzzy), and then turned around and caught the sun slipping into the Pacific.  Looking closely, you can also see the outline of the Carlsbad power plant against the ocean.  Beautiful sky these days on the Mountain Top!   ~Bonnie, January 10, 2009
