There was no lack of enthusiasm from all the Palomar folks and Amgen fans cheering riders up to the King of the Mountain (KOM) finish line! After tackling the 21 turns up the grade, the cyclists were definitely "dancing on their pedals" to reach the Palomar Summit at 5123 feet in elevation. So much fun to watch!
Like these close-ups? Thank photographer Mike Stevens with his camera you see upper right. He zoomed in on the riders while sharing the flatbed trailer we parked at the top of the South Grade a couple nights before the race.
People in 90 countries around the world watched the race while we cheered the athletes with our cameras out to capture the day. Thanks to all who have shared photos and sent press links!
About 40 riders finished the race with 26 Olympic athletes including an Olympic Gold Medal winner, three Tour de France winners, and of course, #2 Lance Armstrong!
South Grader, Larry Groupe's "Palomar Pups" Hot Dog Stand with sodas chilling in the snow!
We had lots of community involvement working hard to make this a fun weekend-to-remember, a mile nearer heaven. Do you have photos to share? Simply send them my way and I'll link for all to enjoy.
